Through over five decades of ministry, our goal has remained unchanged: Challenging Reapers—stirring the local church to rededication and greater outreach—and Harvesting Souls—reaching the lost through evangelism.
Dedication Evangelism was founded in 1961 by Rev. David M. Virkler following five and a half years as pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Montclair, New Jersey. His vision was two-fold: to challenge and inspire the church (dedication) and to reach the lost with the Gospel (evangelism).
Messages and Presentations
For 50 years, David Virkler spoke in special meetings and presentations at church, Bible conferences and camps, retreats and special events. Christians were challenged and encouraged, and the lost reached with the Gospel. Dave spoke on a variety of emphases including evangelism, missions, prophetic issues, current issues, church renewal and Christian living. Dave spoke in 24 states and in Canada, the Caribbean, Bahamas, Chile an Honduras.
What would be Dave’s last message, entitled “Bright Spots in Dark Times”, was given on October 2, 2011. Dave suffered a minor stroke six days later. His last public speaking engagement was on Christmas Day of that year when he gave a testimony in church of the Lord’s great faithfulness in what was expected to be a full recovery following open-heart surgery. The Lord unexpectedly called Dave to be with Himself in January 2012 two weeks after the surgery.
Dave’s preaching still inspires and challenges. A number of his messages and presentations can be heard on-line and on CD.
In 1964, the radio outreach of Dedication Evangelism was launched on a Pennsylvania station. The Word And The World was originally a half-hour and later shortened to a quarter-hour focusing on current issues and events in Biblical perspective. Broadcasts cover world and national news, prophetic issues, current issues, and an annual year in review. The Internet and podcasts have expanded the broadcast's reach beyond just the medium of radio. The broadcast is currently heard on 77 outlets reaching 18 states and Ontario, Canada (see our Radio Log for complete listing), on our website, radio stations' live streaming, and via podcast.
A daily one-minute news commentary, aired from 1984-1997 and again from 2002-2007. In 2008, it moved to a blog format reaching a global audience.
In the early ‘70s, copies of messages and radio broadcasts expanded the ministry to include resource materials. Audio and print materials designed to encourage and challenge Christians and to use in sharing the Gospel with others have been distributed across the country and around the world. A number of commentaries and articles are available in print. Audio resources include messages, special presentations, music and the audio book Presidential Profiles.
We do not sell our materials but make them available for a donation to help cover our costs and enable us to continue this aspect of the ministry. See the resources page for a full list of materials available.
The Internet allows us to reach people around the world. The website offers radio broadcasts, articles and commentaries, and ministry information. Our NEWSpoint blog features a biblical perspective on the news. You can also find us on Facebook.
